Oberemchuk Valentina F. Providing of the competitiveness of an
enterprise: strategic aspect.- Manuscript.

Thesis of the Candidate of Science degree by speciality 08.06.01 –
Economics of an enterprise and organisation of production process. –
Kiev National University of Economics, Kiev, 1999.

The dissertation is devoted to researches of methodical approaches to
the evaluation of competitiveness of an enterprise and strategic aspects
of providing enterprises’ competitiveness in modern conditions.

The author have carried out generalised classification of enterprises
that took into account percularities of their funcioning in conditions
of formation of market relations. Also author have proposed base
strategies of competitiveness for some types of enterprises.

Proposed: improved methodical approach to the evaluation of
competitiveness of industrial enterprises in modern business environment
that is based on the theory of effective competition. Complex index of
enterprise’s competitiveness (which is geometric mean of groups of
indexes, that characterise an enterprise) was used for this purpose. In
total eight groups of indexes was used, namely:

— effectiveness of production process;

— financial position of an enterprise;

— effectiveness of marketing organisation and promotion of goods;

— competitiveness of output;

— competitive potential of an enterprise;

— ecological characteristics of output;

— social effectiveness;

— image of an enterprise.

This methodological approach was introduced on some instrument-making
enterprises of Kiev region. As a result of practical introduction the
following indexes of competitiveness were received:

1. Production association “Kyivprilad” Kp=0.57;

2. Joint stock company “Potentcial” Kp=0.20;

3. Joint stock company “Roctok” Kp=0.63;

In the thesis author have proposed technology of formation and
realisation of strategy of providing of competitiveness of an
enterprises. Peculiarity of the technology is that it is proposed
utilisation of additional stages of this process, namely — elaboration
of scenarios of development of events in competitive environment on
macro- and microlevel. Using legal regulations, specialists’ forecasts
and the results of our researches the author has presented three
possible development scenarios in macro- and microinvironment of an
enterprise: ‘optimistic’, ‘pessimistic’ and most probable.

For each scenario a number of alternative strategies of competitiveness
of an enterprise were proposed, namely:

— strategy of output improvement;

— strategy of output modification;

— new products introduction strategy;

— strategy of spreading to new regions;

— new market segments getting strategy;

— strategy of market development at the expense of new ways of
utilisation of currently produced goods;

— strategy of price leadership;

— strategy of output improvement taking into account market demands and
competitors’ output;

— strategy of sales stimulation.

Taking into account elaborated scenarios of development of events and
proposed strategies of actions (in case of every scenario)
competitiveness of an enterprise was determined. As a result was
determined that competitiveness of investigated enterprise will rise to
0.85 at realisation of sales stimulation at condition of ‘most probable
scenario’ of development of events.

According to defined steps of the implementation of strategy, namely:

— deepen research of environment’s state, goals and developed
strategies;

— making decisions on effective utilisation of resourses;

— determination of accordance of organisational stucture to selected
strategy;

— formation of enterprise’s culture according to the structure;

— participation of senior management in organisation of the strategy;

— setting up of control system on strategy implementation;

— introduction of motivation and encouragement system;

The author have formed directions and exact mechanisms as for
introduction of all stages of stated process which will provide
competitiveness of an enterprise. Also positive results of
implementation of stimulating sells strategy were reached. As an outcome
of introduction of this strategy the enterpise will earn additional
profit.

Main elaboration results were used in planning of business activity of
instrument-making enterprises of Kiev region as well as in studies.
