The role of carnosine in the prevention of metabolic damages in the rat’s liver under the sodium nitrite action.-Manuscript. The thesis is devoted to the problems of using low-weight natural antioxidant carnosine ((-alanyl-L-histidine) under hypoxic states of organism. The influence of this histidine-containing dipeptide on the metabolic reactions of organism was investigated at the hemic hypoxia induced by sodium nitrite. It is showh that carnosine plays the importmant role in the NO-cycle functioning. This fact explains the pharmacological effects of dipeptide in the prevention of metabolic damages induced by hypoxic states. The decreasing of the lipid peroxidation and stabilization of catalase and superoxide dismutase functioning were demonstrated firstly after peroral insertion of carnosine before nitrite intoxication. Dipeptide decreased the activity of catalase after NaNO2 action in vitro. Carnosine intensified the processes of resperation and oxidative phosphorylation in livers’ mitochondria under the oxidation of (-ketoglutaric acid.
