Possibility of usage 60Ni and 137Cs sources’ for radiotherapy and combined treatment of esophageal carcinoma. Thesis for a candidate’s degree by speciality 14.01.23 — radiation diagnostic, radiation therapy — Ukrainian Research Institute of Oncology and Radiology of Ministry of Public Health, Kyiv, 1998. The dissertation is devoted to study of influence of different radiotherapy regimens to long-term results of esophageal carcinoma management. The ascendancy of intracavitary sources’dose rate for frequency and pronounced of radiation reactions and complications and tumor response were investigated. The original methods of preoperative and curative radiotherapy using sources 60Ni and 137Cs for brachytherapy were suggested. The hystostereometric investigations in addition to overall survival rate and mean survival time were provided in surgery groups for estimation of treatments effectivenes. The linear-quadratic model was used for prognosis and efficacy’s appreciation of curative radiotherapy regimens. The statistically reliable advantages between combined radiotherapy and external beam ones alone were demostrated. The offered combined radiotherapy with using the split-course of external beam radiotherapy (standard fractionation) and 60Co-brachytherapy was the most effective.
