Golovataya N.V. The character of phase equilibria and thermodynamic
properties of Gd-Al-Ga, Gd-Ge-Ga and Gd-Si-Ga ternary alloys.

Ten published works, which contain the results of X-ray and
high-temperature calorimetry investigation of components interaction
character in ternary metal systems Gd-Al-Ga, Gd-Ge-Ga and Gd-Si-Ga are
defended. For the first time the isothermal sections Gd-Al-Ga, Gd-Si-Ga
(1073 K) and Gd-Ge-Ga (673 ? 1073 K) phase diagrams have been built. The
existense of 11 new ternary phases was found. The crystal structure and
lattice parameters for 6 ternary and 4 binary Gd-Ge compounds have been
determined. For the first time mixing enthalpies concentration
dependences for Gd-Al-Ga (1759 E), Gd-Ge-Ga (1758 E), Gd-Si-Ga (1750 E)
ternary systems have been established, including mixing enthalpies of
Gd-Al (1770 K), Gd-Ga (1759 K) and Si-Ga (1776 K) binary systems. The
investigated concentration interval for Gd-Si (1760 K) binary system was
essentially extended. For investigated binary and ternary systems mixing
heats in whole concentration interval were calculated using the
“surrounded atom” model. Correlation between mixing enthalpies in binary
liquid alloys and correspondent phase diagrams was established. It has
been shown that components interaction character in Gd-Al(Ge,Si)-Ga
ternary systems is determined by properties of Gd-containing binary
limited systems both in solid and in liquid state.
